DRUG FREE CLUB KABBA HOLDS PUBLIC SENSITIZATION

The Drug Free Club kabba/bunu local government, Kogi state in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) carried out their inaugural public sensitization under the batch A 2016 corps members at the Local Government Comprehensive Secondary School, kabba Kogi state.

The sensitization commenced at exactly 8.00am immediately after the assembly activities of the afformentioned school.

After the introduction by the vice principal of academics, the corps member introduced themselves and the NYSC anthem was recited along with the  National Prayer.

The chief speaker, Corper Ezeudoh Clara (kg/16A/2471) informed the student about what drug actually means and how it is been abused, she gave various explanation on the negative effect of drugs and why it is important for them to shun drug abuse. She made it known that drugs like paracetamol, codeine, tramadol, marijuana, cigarette, cocaine, heroine, nicotine, postinor and so many contraceptive drugs has been greatly abused and it is mostly common among teenagers and youths. She provided advice on how an addicted person can be rehabilitated.

 Corper Mimi, buttressed Corper Clara points by also discussing the effect of various drugs specifically common among ladies, she also explained how It is important for ladies to shun drug abuse and contraceptive pills. She acquainted the young ladies on how they can seek for help instead of endangering their lives and future by indulging  the abuse of drugs, she kindly urge them to SAY YES TO LIFE AND NO TO DRUG ABUSE.!!!!!!

The Drug Free Club Cordinator, Corper Rasheed (kg/16A/2246) highlighted 3 major factors that make youths involve in drug abuse;

  • Prostitution
  • Cultism
  • Peer pressure

He also laid emphasis on how the afformentioned factors can lure them into drug abuse, he stated it as a matter of urgency, the need to eradicate drug abuse and the importance of a DRUG FREE COMMUNITY.

He further lectured the students on why they should not succumb to peer pressure so as to actualise their dreams of becoming doctors, lawyers, managers, pharmacist, accountant, administrators,psychologist and leaders of tomorrow.

The PRO of the group corper Adetunji Ebenezer (kg/16A/2998) also corroborate the points discussed by the Cordinator by stating the importance of totally shunning the 3 factors mentioned above, he informed the students on the willingness of the Drug Free Club to work with them in other to eradicate drug abuse totally and by setting up a drug free club in their school by which he told the interested students to write their names with their class captains.

The Cordinator while rounding up the sensitization appreciated the school authority for giving them an opportunity to talk with the students, also quoting late Nelson Mandela, who said education is the best legacy and weapon that can be used to liberate the world, he therefore urge the students to face their studies with utmost seriousness and wish them success in their forthcoming examinations
